2024 is almost here and I’ve been teasing my music plans long enough… It’s finally time to share 24 for 2024.

I’ve said many times over that what i’m releasing in 2024 isn’t an album, and it’s not. It could have been. There’s been times while I’ve been working on these songs that I seriously considered making it an album called More Content Vol. 2 (which would have played nicely with the somewhat tongue in cheek idea of throwing a bunch more content out into the world). I even thought of during the making of More Content, taking some extra time and making that album into my first ever double album with 30+ tracks… But quite frankly, as much as I’m still an album guy, that really flies in the face of what’s popular at the moment. And that really is the perfect setup for explaining what I’m doing here.

What is 24 for 2024?

In the year 2024 I’ll be releasing 24 new songs. The first and third Friday of every month, I already have a song finished and scheduled for release. I could get abducted by aliens and the songs would still make their way to your Spotifys and Apple Musics and all the places you listen to my music because all 24 songs are fully setup for distribution already.

Now like I said, this isn’t an album. This is a collection of 24 singles. These singles are all songs that have been in various stages of completion since 2017 when I was working on my 4th album A Different Kind Of Dream. If you remember, at the time my plan was to start releasing singles and EPs and albums and all kinds of stuff with a new strategy moving forward. Instead I started podcasting and just didn’t do any of that. I did however complete two more full length albums (not counting my soundtrack releases). Each time I’d be getting closer to finishing David Rosen or MORE CONTENT, some of the songs would either not feel finished, not feel like they fit on the album, or for some other reason just not seem ready for release and they’d go on the back burner. There were some tracks that would start on during A Different Kind Of Dream and end up getting finished during David Rosen (“The Garden” being a good example). Some tracks will still end up on my final album of this era of my music, which is coming in 2025. But the idea is that by the time that album comes out, along with these 24 songs, I’ll finally be at a new starting point.

And one thing I really hope everyone understands, is this is not just a selection of bonus songs or B-Sides or whatever. Some of these 24 songs are some of my favorite work I’ve ever done, and great care was taken to make sure they all feel as vital as anything I’ve ever put on any of my albums. It’s just that I didn’t want to constantly be in a state of “well maybe I’ll save this one for this album and that one for that album and maybe in a few years I can do an album that sounds kind of like this one and…” No. I wanted to get to a good stopping place where I could feel like the 2017-2023 era of my career could be complete and I can move on to some brand new ideas.

What to expect…

So in 2024 you’ll be getting 24 new songs. Along with each song is a piece of artwork that I created with AI tools. Yeah I know… I’ve been critical of AI in the past, and I still am. But as with all technology, I’ve always said its about how and who is using it. A creative person using new tools to create something is always a good thing. A company that could be hiring creative people but opting to use AI is where things get terrible. I’m not that. Hell, with this crazy 24 singles strategy I stand to actually lose a lot of money doing this in 2024! So creating artwork for the 24 songs the old fashioned way was kind of out of the question. I did do screen recordings of my sessions coming up with all the artwork though, and those will get posted to my YouTube channel every month so you can see how I came up with the AI artwork and the whole process. Hopefully they’ll be interesting and fun and funny (AI can be incredibly stupid sometimes), plus you’ll get previews of the next month’s songs each time.

There may be some more surprises along the way in 2024 aside from these 24 songs, but I’m really excited for you to hear these. Like I said, it’s some of my best work ever. The first track you may have heard before actually… It’s my cover of The Cure’s “The Hanging Garden,” which was recently released as part of a fundraiser album of covers of The Cure’s songs, but I went through the necessary steps to secure rights to release it officially. After that we’ll get into “Burn” which actually has had a music video ready for 3 years now (the song just didn’t quite fit on my last two albums so it just sat, waiting for release). And from there we’ve got 22 more songs.

The Hanging Garden

While these are releasing, I’ll be putting the finishing touches on my almost finished 2025 album, which like I said will put a close on this era of my music. You have no idea how excited I am about that album… AND how excited I am for what comes next (I have ideas, but that’s the whole point… it’s all gonna be 100% new from that point forward so who knows what will happen).

Keep an eye out for “The Hanging Garden” on Friday, January 5th, 2024, and make sure to add it to your playlists! And keep listening as these new songs come out on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month in the new year!
