Well I thought by now I’d be here posting a blog about my next David Rosen album but instead, I made another The Pup Pups album and as I do every time I put out an album, we gotta have my mom’s review. Tell you the truth, I almost didn’t post this one because its her worst one yet. About as low effort as can be and wrong in so many places, but hey, it’s Mom. So without any further ado, above is her handwritten notes and below are my transcriptions along with my own commentary.

- “The Perks” – COUNTRY ROCK
- I mean I think of it as the Stones and I suppose some of their stuff incorporated elements of country rock so it’s not that far off but still a weird start to her commentary.
- “Side Ways Walk” – HONKY TONK?
- The question mark lets us know she has no clue what she’s talking about. Honky tonk maybe would have made more sense for the last one? Anyway this is more of a hard rock one. I was going for AC/DC and I think that’s pretty clear.
- “Runnin'” – SPRINGSTEEN
- OK she got this one spot on (or more specifically a newer artist Sam Fender who is himself very inspired by Springsteen)… But the fact tht she taped a piece of paper over top to correct herself does make me wonder what it says under Spingsteen… Hmmm…
- “Colorado” – CSNY, DYLAN
- Sure. Although Mom you can write more than an artist name here. You can say a few words.
- “Rough & Tumble” – THE CURE
- The survey says… XXX. Couldn’t be more wrong if she tries. Either she doesn’t know what The Cure sounds like or she wasn’t listening to the song. There’s no other possiblity here.
- “Bonded Pair” – EVERLY BROS HEE HAW!
- OK I think this is essentially close enough so I’ll accept it.
- “Thinkin’ About You” – CHICK MUSIC
- I suppose it kind of is, so sure whatever.
- “Introducing!” – BILLY IDOL
- I definitely was not thinking of Billy Idol, but I guess that kinda works so OK.
- “Indie Rocking Dog” – LIMP BIZKIT
- No! No! No! What? I could have seen Limp Bizkit for “Rough & Tumble” since it’s rap-rock but not this one at all. Again, I don’t think she even knows what Limp Bizkit sounds like.
- “One Pill” – JEFFERSON AIRPLANE
- OK this one is spot on. Kinda a mix of them and Ozzy, but yes. Definitely.
- “Bats In The Belfry” – ANY ALTERNATIVE GRP.
- I mean technically she’s right… She could have been a little more descriptive, but we’ll give it to her.
- “Getting Back To My Old Self” – MORE CHICK MUSIC
- Mom can’t handle anything with emotion so I suppose that makes this chick music maybe. Sure, I guess. But not really.
- “Get It Get It!” – SOFT ROCK?
- No… Rock Rock! More classic rock influence on this song than anything and it’s one of the more upbeat, rockin’ tracks on the album. Maybe she was asleep and missed it?
- “The Muse” – BOB DYLAN
- Vocally maybe but musically not really, but I guess half right so OK.
- “A-OK With Me!” – SQUARE DANCE TIME!
- At least we’re ending on the right note!
Thanks as always for the review Mom… Even if the reviews are getting worse and worse. Anyway… As always I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on the album! What are your favorite tracks? Any specific moment stand out? Comment below or on social media.
Sorry about the delay in getting the vinyl and tennis balls out to everyone who preordered… It took me a long time to get the order in from the printing company but this post is going up the day I’m picking up the vinyl from the post office so I should be hand delivering and/or shipping all of your records later this week. Also, our little rock star Harvey is going through a tough time, so please keep him in your thoughts. And he happens to be in the middle of another album! But we’re giving him all the best care possible and we’re hopeful he’ll make it through for the 100th time.
Between his health and my taking over Wax Trax Records, I haven’t been able to work on any of the music videos I planned on making for this album, but I’m sure I will at some point… Even if it’s after the next album comes out. And speaking of Wax Trax Records, I will have copies of the vinyl available here at the store so if you didn’t get one yet, come in and get one directly from me!
