I’m so excited to share with you all the next music video from MORE CONTENT! “Ascending” is an animated music video created from an idea I had about a man who sees nothing but darkness and his affect on that world around him. It’s been a while since I’ve had a music video made from a more narrative story idea (you’d have to go all the way back to “Artifical” from Head Like Fire really), versus the more abstract visual-based music videos I’ve released in the last 5 years or so (which don’t get me wrong, I also love and am very proud of).

Truth of the matter is the opportunities to collaborate with filmmakers just haven’t been presenting themselves the last few years (although there are definitely some irons in the fire), and the few times I’ve attempted to straight up hire someone to bring my ideas to life, they just didn’t work out. And believe me, this video’s production was fraught with some difficulties as well. I don’t want to speak poorly of the person (multiple people? I really don’t know…) who worked on the animation for “Ascending,” but to say it’s kind of a miracle this thing finally came together is a bit of an understatement.  I’ll spare you the details of the issues I ran into in getting “Ascending” made, but lets just say I’m just really happy to finally be able to share this music video with you all.

“Ascending” is one of the most ambient pieces on MORE CONTENT and in a lot of ways I look at it as a sister-piece to “Multiply” from my self-titled David Rosen album. It’s a big, epic dramatic instrumental that never quite builds to the kind of beat a lot of my songs tend to work their way towards, and something about the vibe of the song inspired the idea for the video.

This is the third video from the album and like I said, I hired a company to do the animation off of my own story idea. The final video I recieved after various edits required some more work on my part to make it truly ready to share, and I finished it up with some editing of my own as well as some effects work that I think really tied the whole thing together into a great finished film.

What did “Ascending” say to you? How do you read the video and this man’s story? Make sure to leave a comment and share!
