No, getting my mom’s review of my albums isn’t reserved for just the serious, dramatic instrumental music. It’s time for my mom’s review of The Pup Pups – “Who Wants Din-Din?” I’ve been guesting on a few podcasts talking about the album and it’s been featured in Modern Dog Magazine and LV Pet Scene Magazine, but of course… What does Grandma think about it is the question that’s on everyone’s mind… So here’s her track by track break down (you can see her actual hand written notes in the featured image which I’ve tried my best to transcribe below).
- “Give Me Back That Toy Again” – LUV IT – GREAT BEAT – AWESOME LYRICS
- “Another Me” – TRIBUTE TO UNDERWEAR CHEWING PUP (COUNTRY!!)
- “Walka Walka” – SOFT ROCK FROM DOGGO POINT OF VIEW
- “I’m In Trouble” – ODE TO BAD PUPPER – KOOL ROCK
- “Little Dog” – ROY ORBISON STYLE – UPTEMPO
- “Muffin Maker” – REMINDS ME OF ROCKY HORROR!!!
- “Sink Cat” – ABOUT CATS’ RIDICULOUS CHOICES – HA
- “Jingle Jangle” – NOT AN XMAS SONG – SKA BEAT?
- “Headbutts (New Cat)” – CUTE. PROB LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT
- “Fenix” – TOTAL COUNTRY BALLAD – ABOUT A CAT!!
- “Wet Dog” – A TOUCH OF A METALLICA W/O SHREDDING (FADE TO BLACK)
- “Big Dog 2” – IF DEF LEPPARD WAS A DOG
- “Slip & Splat” – NOT ALOTTA LYRICS – BUT PUMPED
- “Big Bright Eyez” – IF BOB DYLAN WAS A DOG
- “Covered In Blankets” – SWEET + DUMB
- “Charley-O” – DAVE’S TRIBUTE TO HIS PARENTS DOGS + 50’S MUSIC
- “The Hungry Pups” – A FILLER!!!
- “Sadie Pup / Kick That Butt Megamix” – EMINEM COULD SPIT THIS ONE!
- “Covered In Blankets (Extended Version)” – DAVE’S SOFT ROCK OPERA TRIBUTE
As usual I barely know what to make of these notes. Some of them are spot on but others are bizarre. My favorite is suggesting that “Headbutts (New Cat)” is probably like a Taylor Swift song. Totally… By the way, I wonder if I could get The Pup Pups’ official vet, Dr. Yauch at West Flamingo Animal Hospital to do a review… That would rule.
Thanks to Mom and Dad and thanks to everyone who has bought the album. Honestly it’s done better than most of my instrumental albums which is… I don’t even know what to say haha, but I’ll take it. You can still get a copy from Bandcamp at https://thepuppups.bandcamp.com/album/who-wants-din-din and there are copies available here in Las Vegas at Wax Trax Records.
The album is of course also on streaming on Spotify and all the other music streaming services. And next up for The Pup Pups is music videos! I’ve got a few on the way that will be so much fun and then it’s time to get back to more of my instrumental music. But you never know… There could be more The Pup Pups on the way too (spoiler alert: there almost definitely will be because I have like 5 songs already started)…
And one last thing… On a totally separate but also dog related note… I’m doing a live episode of Piecing It Together Podcast this week on the new raunchy talking dog comedy STRAYS at Maya Cinemas here in Las Vegas. My mom will be joining me, as well as Toni Gonzales from Retriever Rescue and Michael & Melissa Novelli from Pawtastic Friends, two great animal organizations. It’ll be a fun time on Thursday, August 17th at 7pm so if you’re in Las Vegas, come on out! Tickets and more info can be found at https://www.piecingpod.com/2023/08/02/strays-live-show-thursday-august-17th-in-las-vegas-nv/
