Note From David: This review and demo was made a long time ago when I was still actively creating my This Thing Rules series. It was never posted due partially to the issues I was having with my old site and all of the projects I took on that got in the way of keeping my site up to date. Since this review was basically finished and features a pretty cool piece of music I figured it’s worth sharing now. I don’t know yet whether I will really return to the This Thing Rules series, but I hope you enjoy this one for now.
Welcome to another installment of This Thing Rules! This one will take you into the Realm of Omnisphere, a new expansion pack from our friends at CL-Projects.
Realm of Omnisphere features 158 ambient and atmospheric sounds for Omnisphere 2. The demo I made “The Outer World” was made entirely with sounds from this package. Lets take a listen.
Tubular Runner – Awesome arpeggiated synth. Sounds like something out of a film like Tron or something. Great mood setter.
Retrostrings – Some old school sounding synth strings that I used to create a pulsation throughout the track.
Majestique – a polysynth with a sweet 80s sound to it and a great aftertouch effect to it.
You Shall Not Pass – an eerie string/voice pad that could score a scene all on its own.
Rock In Motion – an ambient guitar sound that mixes real sounding guitar with a more synth sound to create a cool original sound. I also ran this one through an arpeggiator to create a cool build up rhythm.
CS-80 Legacy – The description calls this synth key/string combo a “classic Vangelis” sound and that’s a pretty apt description. I used this sound to create the final notes that along with the drums (which come from another sound source) build up the end of the song.
Realm of Omnisphere is available from CL-Projects for $29.99. There is a lot of great stuff here and if you’re looking for some new presets for Omnisphere 2 (and if you’re like me, you always are), this is a good one to check out.
