… Like Ashes is here!

After An Unseen Sky, it took me over half a year to finish the companion album Another Sky. But I’m so excited to announce that that is definitely not the case this time around. The collection of B-Sides & Remixes from Head Like Fire is now here and it’s called … Like Ashes.  You can find more info about the album itself on its album page (click the title), but this blog post is your introduction to the album, and most importantly… info on how to get it now!

Just like I did with Another Sky, there are three ways you can get your hands on … Like Ashes.

1. The first and quickest way to get it, is to buy the limited-edition CD copy of Head Like Fire from Bandcamp. (Just click the link to Bandcamp right there!) It’s $10 (plus shipping), and many of you already bought it. But if you haven’t, there’s no better time than now. And if you are one of those awesome people that already bought it, then I’ll be in touch on the official release date, Tuesday, March 14th (if you want, e-mail me, just in case I somehow forget about you).

2. Reviews really help my music get noticed, so go ahead and leave a review of Head Like Fire on the digital music store of your choice. Wherever you buy your music… iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, CDbaby… You can find a pretty full list of links to the stores on the Head Like Fire album page (or click on the links to the most popular stores in the previous line). Post a nice review of Head Like Fire (which I know you’ve already listened to and loved… right???), then share it on Facebook or Twitter, and then shoot me an e-mail to let me know that you did it.

3. Contests! I’m going to be running multiple contests over the next couple months for you to win downloads of Head Like Fire. As a matter of fact… Share this blog post on Facebook / Twitter and make sure to tag it with #headlikefire and I’m going to pick 3 random winners that will get an immediate download! Couldn’t be easier!

Now just like with my previous bonus tracks albums, … Like Ashes will eventually be released on Bandcamp as a FREE download for everybody, even if you didn’t buy any of my other music. However, like I’ve done in the past, that will be later down the road. Most likely towards the end of the summer. In the meantime, the ONLY WAY to get your hands on this collection of 13 new tracks is to do one of the above 3 options. This album has 8 awesome new songs and 5 amazing remixes from some really talented musicians (I’ll be posting a blog soon detailing all of them). So you’re going to want to hear this!

The remixes are by Mt/Mz (http://www.facebook.com/mtmzmusic), Adrian Star (http://www.adrianstar.com), DJ Day Won (http://soundcloud.com/djdaywon), and Mike Kelleher (http://www.composermike.com). I’ll be writing in more detail about all of them in the future blog posts.

Now that … Like Ashes will begin to be available, I will be taking a little bit of a break from making new music while I recharge a little bit (in the past 4 months or so I’ll have released two albums, a single, multiple music videos, and scored half a dozen films!)… But there is plenty more coming soon including promotional events for the “Constellations 360” VR Music Video, new music videos for “Trying Again” and “Artificial” and a lot, lot more. Thanks for listening!

Head Like Fire – My Mom’s Review

My new album, Head Like Fire is coming out on December 6th, and like I did last time around, I’ve got the exclusive first review… From my mom.

Before getting into the review, make sure to check out the Pre-Order blog post so you can get your pre-order in (go ahead… I’ll wait). Pre-ordered the limited edition CD copy sponsored by Wax Trax Records? Good. Alright, on with the review.

  1. Impossible – WELCOME BACK YANNI!
  2. Angel – HADDA WAIT A LONG TIME FOR HOOK TO COME BACK – BUT WORTH IT!!
  3. Made of Stone – KINDA MELLOW – FOR A FILM CREDITS ROLLING NOW (David’s note: what? haha)
  4. Under The Dust – NICE – KINDA LONG (David’s note: Great review mom haha)
  5. Trying Again – SLOW START – THEN BECOMES UPLIFTING
  6. Devil – THE MOST DRAMATIC – SO FAR
  7. Constellations – KINDA INSTROSPECTIVE + DEEP
  8. Artificial – NOT MEMORABLE BUT A NICE ENDING (David’s note: Thanks mom haha)
  9. Head On Fire – SHADES OF YANNI! (David’s note: Hahahahahaha)
  10. Butterfly – NICE – KINDA LIKE A NOT TOO VIOLENT CHASE SCENE (David’s note: At this point, why not? haha)
  11. Burnout – SHADES OF METALLICA!
  12. Out Of Everything – UPTEMPO COUNTRY-ISH THEN CHANGES TO ? (David’s note: I don’t even know what to make of this comment hahaha)
  13. Negative – NICE, FUN + LIGHT
  14. Free Fall – BIG!! GOOD FOR OPENING CREDITS
  15. Only In Dreams – OK, BUT AFTER #14 NOT TOO EXCITING (David’s note: That’s what we in the business call dynamics, mom… hahaha)
  16. Back Into The Dark – HEAVY + SCARY – GREAT GUITAR – IS THAT A GUITAR I’M HEARING (David’s note: It’s a mix of real guitar and synths that sound like guitars)

So what did I learn this time around? Well for one, my mom has no idea what it is that I do (and by the way, in proof-reading this blog post I went back to the “An Unseen Sky – My Mom’s Review” blog post and noticed I said the exact same thing) haha. Number two, she’s out of her mind. But I love her, and I’m glad she’s one of the first people to give the album a listen. I can’t wait for you all to hear it soon!

Head Like Fire Pre-Order

Head Like Fire

Head Like Fire is now available for pre-order!

I had set a deadline for myself to finish the album by Halloween and that’s exactly what I did. I am so proud of this collection of songs. It is some of my best work ever and I think you’re all going to really enjoy it.

So there are a few ways you can buy it…

The Back Cover of Head Like Fire

First of all you can pre-order it on iTunes of course. You get an instant download of the track “Devil” and then you get the album downloaded directly to your iDevice when December 6th, 2016 hits. That’s cool. If you’re an Apple person, go for it. You can also pre-order it on my Bandcamp page which gets you 3 instant tracks. That’s awesome too…

But I personally think you should opt for a Limited Edition CD copy of the album. Why? Well like I did with An Unseen Sky, if you buy the CD copy of the album, you will automatically be entitled to a download of the follow-up B-Sides & Remixes release when it is ready in early 2017. You also get a beautiful digipak CD package with photos by Gina Mizzoni Photography. Most importantly, you still care about music enough to want something tangible and not just a digital file that means nothing haha. There are currently two ways to get the CD copy, although it will eventually also be available in more ways after the official release date.

The first way to order it is on my Bandcamp page at http://davidrosen.bandcamp.com. Just make sure to choose the Limited Edition CD Copy for $10 (not the digital copy for $7). I’ll be shipping those orders out myself as soon as I receive them.

The second way is something I’ve never done before. If you Paypal me $20 (plus $5 shipping), I’ll ship you all 3 of my CDs, Echoes In The DarkAn Unseen Sky, and Head Like Fire, AND I’ll mark you down to get a FREE copy of my 4th album. Yea the 4th album is a while’s off still, but hey, if you don’t have all 3 of my CDs, why not get in now, right? And if you do have them, now you’ll have extra copies to keep sealed haha. To Paypal me the $25, click this link:

Well that’s that for now. If you’ve read this far, I also suggest you watch this little video I shot of me burning all the test copies of the album. It features snippets of 4 songs from Head Like Fire and will give you an idea of what you’re getting when you pre-order it. I’ve got a lot of news coming soon with new music videos, the album’s actual launch on 12/06/2016, and more. Thank you all for the support. Thanks Wax Trax Records for sponsoring the Limited Edition CD. I can’t wait for you all to hear this album.

Head Like Fire – My New Album

Head Like Fire

After months of teases I am so proud to finally announce my new album, Head Like Fire.

It’s been both a long time coming, but also surprisingly not that long… seeing as how my last album, An Unseen Sky came out in April of 2015. I didn’t expect to release another album until 2017, but when it’s time it’s time!

As is the tradition, this album contains 16 songs (and yes there will be another FREE collection of bonus tracks and remixes coming later). Here is the track-list:

  1. Impossible
  2. Angel
  3. Made Of Stone
  4. Under The Dust
  5. Trying Again
  6. Devil
  7. Constellations
  8. Artificial
  9. Head On Fire
  10. Butterfly
  11. Burnout
  12. Out Of Everything
  13. Negative
  14. Free Fall
  15. Only In Dreams
  16. Back Into The Dark

You’ve no doubt already heard “Butterfly” in the music video which as of the time of this writing has had over 4500 plays! You may have also checked out “Burnout” on my Soundcloud page or heard “Devil” when it was premiered on the New Music Inferno radio show, but otherwise, these are all brand new songs that only me and my girlfriend have heard. And speaking of my girlfriend, how about this AMAZING album cover that she made for me?! She shot the photo (as she does all of my photos) did all the effects, and then I jumped in and did a little bit of extra stuff to it to finish it up. So cool! Make sure to check out her website at http://www.ginamizzoni.com

The album title Head Like Fire comes from the idea of me having all these ideas and directions I could go with my music after Echoes In The Dark and An Unseen Sky, and they were all fighting to get out of my head. I considered going all industrial at one point… All ambient… Making something very 80s sounding… Doing a film-score like concept album… There were many ideas, but in the end, I decided to go with my favorite option… Throw them all together and see what happens! I’m so proud of the final result and truly believe this is my best album yet.

The pre-order will go live within the next couple of weeks and I’m currently planning on 12/06/2016 as being the release date. I might end up releasing it sooner since, hey, it’s not like I have a record label telling me what to do! But I definitely want to take my time making sure the album is totally done. I also have another public domain footage-based music video coming soon, as well as TWO videos from Christopher Johnson who made my “Never” music video. I’ve also been talking with a couple of other directors about doing more music videos, so believe me when I say that it’s going to be a busy 2017. I can’t wait for you all to hear Head Like Fire.

Working Hard…

Today’s blog is just going to be a quick little update to let you all know how things are going with all the projects I’ve been working on.

Yes, I’ve fallen a little behind on the to-do list, but don’t worry, that doesn’t mean I’ve fallen behind on making music.

Nope, during this little bit of radio silence from me, I’ve been working hard on a number of things. Most importantly, album #3 is  WAY past the 50% finished mark. It’s currently sitting at 23 started tracks, 14 of which I’m almost certain will make the album. That leaves two more perfect tracks that need to somehow materialize before I start focusing in on going back and finishing each song to get the album done (16 songs is sort of a tradition for my main albums and will continue to be). Expect to see a lot of news about the third album, and hopefully some more tastes of it too over the coming months… If you haven’t already listened to “Burnout,” the first track I’ve released from the album, check it out on my Soundcloud page.

Along with album work, I also did music for a few projects and have been finally actively engaging with music libraries, which are one of the better ways to make a living in this business, although something I’ve been putting on the back burner for far too long. Thanks to that work you should be hearing some of my music in some TV shows soon. Hopefully some of them I can let you know about ahead of time. But regardless, that stuff is happening.

I also am seriously backlogged with This Thing Rules reviews. I have demos made for two of them right now (so I just need to write the actual review), but I have four more to do after that. I definitely plan on finishing all six by the end of the year. I have big plans for This Thing Rules and am working to grow it for 2017 and start taking on bigger software and putting more into these reviews. The feedback on them has been great and useful and I want to make sure everyone knows that I am listening… and I want to make sure that YOU are all listening.

I’m also in the planning stages of some EPs that will end up being little collections of even more music that will get released in between albums. I’m not going to go into detail on those right now, but it should be a cool series and allow me to release a lot more music for all of you. I’m currently debating releasing the first one before or after the next album. We’ll see what happens…

Lastly, I’ve been writing some music video ideas for songs from the next album that hopefully can be turned into reality. I have a few already  that I’ve been discussing with some of my collaborators and we’ll see… There could be some really cool videos coming soon. Fingers crossed.

That’s it for now. Thanks for hanging in there. Thanks for listening. If you haven’t already, you can check out all the This Thing Rules reviews and listen to the music demos I include in each one at the This Thing Rules Archives. I’ll be back really soon with my review of The Riser from Air Music Tech. Now it’s time to get back to working hard.

Another Sky – The Bonus Tracks

Well here’s something I almost forgot to do! A two-part blog about the tracks on my free bonus album, Another Sky!

This first part will go over the bonus tracks that didn’t make it onto the full album An Unseen Sky, and the second blog will be about the remixes that were included. If you haven’t yet, check out this blog to learn how to get a FREE copy of Another Sky. After the second part of this blog series is posted I’ll be releasing Another Sky for EVERYONE on my Bandcamp page. But in the meantime, you can get it right now, for free, while helping me out! Oh and before I forget, how beautiful is that album cover by the wonderful Gina Mizzoni Photography? Alright, lets look at the the bonus tracks.

Another Sky is Here!

It’s taken me a solid 3 months longer than expected (not that I was working on it the whole time or anything haha), but I’m finally proud to announce that Another Sky is finished and ready for you to listen to! You can get more details about the album over at the album page, but this post is set-up for one main reason… To let you know how to get it!

There are THREE ways to currently get your hands on Another Sky and no matter what, it’s a completely FREE release. 14 tracks, including 9 new songs and 5 remixes of songs from An Unseen Skyall for free. Here’s how to get it…

1. The first and quickest way to get it, is to buy the limited-edition CD copy of An Unseen Sky from Bandcamp. (Just click the link to Bandcamp right there!) It’s $10, and many of you already bought it. But if you haven’t, there’s no better time than now. And if you are one of those awesome people that already bought it, then I’ll be in touch on the official release date, Tuesday, October 27th (if you want, e-mail me, just in case I somehow forget about you… there’s quite a lot of you guys haha).

2. Reviews really help my music get noticed, so go ahead and leave a review of An Unseen Sky on the digital music store of your choice. Wherever you buy your music… iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, CDbaby… You can find a pretty full list of links to the stores on the An Unseen Sky album page (or click on the links to the most popular stores in the previous line). Post a nice review of An Unseen Sky (which I know you’ve already listened to and loved… right???), then share it on Facebook or Twitter, and then shoot me an e-mail to let me know that you did it.

3. Contests! I’m going to be running multiple contests over the next couple months for you to win downloads of Another Sky. As a matter of fact… Share this blog post on Facebook / Twitter and make sure to tag it with #anothersky and I’m going to pick 3 random winners that will get an immediate download! Couldn’t be easier!

Now just like my previous album of bonus tracks & remixes, Further Into The Dark, I’ll be eventually releasing this album onto Bandcamp where anyone can get it for free (and/or pay what you want). It is absolutely my intention for everyone who wants this album to get a copy and enjoy it. But for now, I want to keep it special for those people who have been supporting my career! Thank you to all of you who have been listening to my music!

Can’t wait to hear how you like Another Sky!

Another Sky Is Coming

I’ve been talking about it for a while now, but I’m excited to say that Another Sky is almost here! This collection of bonus tracks and remixes is coming out awesome. I’m hoping to finish it sometime in August and then figure out how I want to release it. You can finally see the album cover up above (featuring an excellent photo by the lovely Gina Mizzoni Photography). So what’s included on this release?

As of the time of this writing the album will include eight songs that didn’t make it onto An Unseen Sky (maybe more if I decide to include a song or two that really wasn’t made for it but I might add anyway), and four remixes from some amazing musician friends of mine. The remixers so far are Gary Goblins, Quoth, Lady Hectic, and Ron Rierson. I’ll be posting a blog post after the release with more info about all of the remixers, but you can click each of their names to check out their Facebook pages.

The bonus songs are either tracks that weren’t finished in time, or I just didn’t feel fit the overall vibe of An Unseen Sky. Make no mistake… There is some awesome stuff on here. Those of you who heard my last B-Sides & Remixes collection, Further Into The Dark (the companion piece for my last album, Echoes In The Dark) know that the tracks are of the same quality and if you like my music, you’ll love this stuff.

If you were around for the last album and Further Into The Dark, you’ll also remember that these B-Sides & Remixes albums are FREE. That’s right. If you purchased the CD version of An Unseen Sky you will be getting a completely free download of Another Sky! I’ll also be setting up some other kinds of promotions to get Another Sky onto your hard-drives, but no matter what, I won’t be charging you to hear it (I do want to have some qualifiers for getting it, like supporting a promotion or having already bought the album, at least at first, so it’s not just some random free thing floating around the internet haha!).

Oh and one more thing… Now that I’ve got Another Sky on the way, and Further Into The Dark has been around for well over a year… I’m excited to announce that I’ve decided to make Further Into The Dark available for EVERYBODY. “Buy it” for FREE at http://davidrosen.bandcamp.com or just check it out right here:

So that’s the news from me for now… It’s time to go back to work. I’m expecting word back on some more film fests, I’m working on some 48 Hour Film Projects (a blog post will be written about that in the next couple weeks), I’m getting ready to release my next music video for the track “Never,” and I’m about to go camping… If I make it back alive, it’s time to finish Another Sky.
